Is censorship a double-edged sword?…
I am a person that believes that censorship is a problem for all that are involved, but it’s probably more of a problem for those enforcing the censorship than those being censored. It’s a problem for those being censored, only in the context of them having to watch their words around those that may get offended. But to those doing the censoring, there are many problems that arise as soon as they decide to initiate their censorship. The first issue is that they have to explain their sensitivity to the content being censored. Next, they have to have a reasonable way to enforce their censorship without violating the person’s right, specifically their right to free speech. Lastly, censorship cuts people off from certain information, some people are educated in ways that bind them to the vocabulary they’ve had access to all their lives…
In my opinion, censorship of language should not be a thing, only the censorship of behaviors, and even then it should only be enforced if others are affected. Language should be free to all and if you don’t care for what’s being said at the moment you should remove yourself, if the person isn’t allowing you to escape the situation then that’s considered a behavior issue…
My question to those that believe in censorship, are you giving the words you’re trying to censor more attention than it deserves by trying to keep others from saying?…
